The most populous state of the largest democracy just witnessed the election phenomenon like never before. Collaborations and allegations surfaced among many other things. It would not be wrong to say that divided minorities in Uttar Pradesh came together and made a clear yet intelligent choice of bringing the Bhartiya Janata Party to power.

It is somewhat obvious that the candidate undisclosed until sometime post results rode on the “Modi wave” that has been flooding the nation since 2014. The reactions of the general public regarding the candidate- an outcome of their votes- have come out as mixed- ecstatic or disappointed?

Yogi Adityanath’s appointment as Chief Minister is undoubtedly a strategic move, a part of the Prime Minister’s vision for the future of the country. The respectable chief minister has been in highlights previously for primarily religious sentiment related issues plaguing the largely holy state – the beef debate, the Rambhoomi temple- mosque conflict verdict, women’s safety et al.

Now in his mid-forties, he became the youngest MP at the age of 26. Consequently, he is a seasoned person in the field. People are intrigued and are sure to keep a close eye on Yogi’s “moves” in that which is coming up.

From an economic perspective, employment and production driven growth should take centre stage rather than mass superstitions and emotional policies. One must not carry strong expectations realising that this is just the infancy stage of the term. The actions at this

The actions at this stage, however, are critical for the near future of BJP in India. As most people acknowledge- 2019 is not far away. And so isn’t the General election. Half the work stands done but there is still half the way up left. The status- Work in progress!
